Body Scrubs – The Underrated Royal Skin Treatment
You may splurge on numerous moisturizers and body lotions for soothing the dryness or for providing intense moisturization, but the real question is does it work? No! Until the dead skin cells, skin oils and dirt is washed off, there is no way a moisturizer can do its job and soaps can’t cut it.
What is a body scrub?
A body scrub is an exfoliant which wards off the dry and dead skin cells from the outer layer of the skin (epidermis) which in turn leaves the skin smoother, brighter and cleaner. It also stimulates the skin cell turnover.
Why should one use a body scrub?
- Gets rid of dead and dry skin cells
- Leaves the skin smoother and brighter
- Promotes skin cell turnover
- Clears congestion and dirt
- Nourishes dry skin
- Stops promotion of ingrown hair
- Smoothens razor bumps
- Helps other skincare products penetrate deeper
- Evens the skin tone
When should one use a body scrub?
A body scrub shouldn’t be used more than once or twice a week as over exfoliation can cause skin irritation and rashes. It is advisable for a beginner to patch test the scrub and use it once a week and gradually increase it to twice per week. Also, it is extremely good to use a body scrub before shaving as it reduces the stinging feeling and also stops ingrown hair. In case, the skin is irritated, avoid using a scrub.
Who can use a body scrub?
Body scrubs need to be introduced to the skin at the beginning of the teenage years as that’s when the body undergoes changes. The surprising part is that body scrubs work exceptionally well for all skin types. However, it is advisable to avoid scrubs containing harsh scrubbing ingredients as they do more harm than good.
